I have attached a PDF file, on the websites tab under resources, at the very bottom of the page. It is a list of words from A-Z S (some have more words than others) that we have used throughout the year.
I just wanted to thank everyone for the wonderful school year. This year, in addition to teaching kindergarten, I also supply taught. The experience of supply teaching made me realize that much more what a wonderful group of students I had the pleasure of teaching. All of your children were extremely respectful and they all have bright futures ahead of them. Thanks to all the parents and all the families that came out today. I have sent home report cards, a DVD and CD with a slideshow and pictures, a scrapbook with the children's art, and a folder with some of their writing. There are still a few shoes left at school, but for the mos part everything has been taken home. I wish each and every one of your children the best of luck in their future schooling and it has been a pleasure to teach them this past school year. We practiced a couple of songs this morning that we have learned throughout the year. During the middle block, the weather held out for us and we had a lot of fun at the wacky olympics. We had such centres as water relay, hockey, ball on cone relay, and a hydration station. We also found a toad in the classroom. We took care of it for the day, named it Jumpy, and released it back into the wild at the end of the day. Wacky olympics was cancelled for today due to the rain and has been rescheduled for Tuesday, June 21st. The time of the events is during 3rd and 4th period (from 11:00-12:40). This morning, our message had to do with what was our favourite sport. Many students picked soccer, not surprisingly. We had gym in the morning and had our usual centres. Our math centre today focused on addition and substraction, using math manipulative blocks. We finished the day off by watching some Passe Partout. Please look into your child's note t This is a note to inform you that Thursday, June 16th will be our CRAZY SUMMER OLYMPICS at Lakeshore! The early years will be participating during periods 3-4. The activities will be mostly conducted outside, so please dress smart for the weather. Afterwards, we will be having a picnic lunch outside. Items to bring for the Crazy Olympics 1. Sunscreen 2. Sandals with backs straps or watershoes 3. hat 4. water bottle 5. litterless picnic lunch 6. LOTS OF SCHOOL SPIRIT Our morning message had to do with students expressing what is their favourite season. Not surprisingly, most picked summer! We did a father's day card activity and had small group instruction with small chalk boards and we had to write down different words and sounds. We started a different Paul et Suzanne book today that had stories about the summer. I sent home with the students their happy heads that they did a few weeks ago, with grass sticking out as hair. Some of them will be a little wet from havin watered them today. There are holes in the bottom of the cup to let excess water drain out, so be careful where you place it. Also, hot dag day will First thing in the morning, we started off by answering the question what colour is our hair and writing down the answer. Students had library today and just a quick reminder that there is no more book exchange and all books have to be back to the library by this Thursday, the 9th. We used musical instruments today and learned how to keep the beat to a song, by listening to classical music. We had a small language centre, where students were with me and we used small chalk boards to spell out French words that were phonetically similar when they are writen. We also had the dice rolling centre, where stuents rolled a consonant and a vowel and made a work or sound out of the results. We finished off the day by watching a few minutes of Passe Partout. We started off the day with our morning message, where students had to write down the answer to the question of what is their favourite colour. We usually read Paul and Suzanne stories every morning, and today I asked the students to illustrate their own story about the characters. We took a closer look at the bean plants that I had planted. I was able to pull the plants out of their container and notice how all the dirt came along with it. We discussed that it was beacause of the roots that that they help to prevent erosion. Everyone got to bring home their plants today, so look out for a brown paper bag. We finished the day off by going to the gym to enjoy some centre activities. Yesterday, we used math manipulative blocks to measure the heights of our plants. Some of them were over 20 blocks high!. We also used our thumbs to paint a summer setting. The morning message was to write down when is our birthday, with the month and the day. I have sent home the June calendar with the students and I have posted an electronic copy under the calendar tab. We are starting to wrap up our talk about life cycles, and more specifically our discussions about plants. We recorded our last picture about our bean plants. Those that were not growing, we replanted them last week and some of them were starting to shoot out today. We discussed safety in the class, safety at home, and I assessed the students' abilities to remember their name and phone number. We also had a graphing activity where students graphed various shapes and I assessed their graphing abilities. Language centres included letter Bingo and sound recognition with the chalk boards. We finished off the day by watching a Passe Partout clip, similar to what I have posted on the blog, but the school board has purchased the entire DVD series. |
